So, it’s taken us, Sanctuary of Brigid co-founders Cairelle and Laura, a hot minute to sit with and attempt to process the reversal of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court. How does one come to grips with the fact that they do not have bodily sovereignty? We all have stories that involve our sacred womb, and it’s hard to imagine there are women out there who believe it’s okay for others to dictate how a woman chooses what happens with her own body. Still… here we are. It’s not a good place, and it feels horrible to be relegated to a status that is similar to livestock.
The Sanctuary of Brigid is not a political organization, but it was started and is managed by two women who have both have lived experience in making a reproductive choice. As such, we are willing to use the platform of this collective that we co-founded to share how we are choosing to support the cause of choice and access to abortion healthcare. There are so many! We decided the best way we can show up is to personally contribute to the non-profits who are doing the “boots on the ground” work of helping those in need to access abortion. Our first 501(c)3 non-profit of choice is The Brigid Alliance. They offer support to people who must travel long distances to receive abortion healthcare. That’s a valuable service in light of the recent ruling! We like that they have a great rating on Charity Navigator and of course that they carry the name of our beloved Brigid. You can check them out at www.brigidalliance.org and do consider a donation, please!
We hope that you will join us, in whatever way you’re able, to ensure that choice and unfettered access to healthcare is available to all. Our thoughts are with the women, trans men, and non-binary people who are directly affected by this ruling. Keep faith, as we WILL make our way through this, guided by the light of Brigid’s flame.
