After many months of hard editing work, we are so excited to share the title and cover for our anthology! The cover art – “Brighde” – is by the fabulous Stuart Littlejohn. We especially love that there’s a sword, and we appreciate seeing Brigid with a bit of a fierce look about her! Here’s a blurb about the book:
“This anthology celebrates Brigid, an ancient and mysterious Celtic spirit who ranks among today’s most popular modern goddesses. Venerated in many forms including as a saint and a goddess, Brigid has traveled the globe alongside the Celtic diaspora. Once a goddess with a narrow territory, she is now an internationally beloved presence. While acknowledging her origins, this book also explores Brigid from the perspective of those outside her original Celtic homeland.
Editors Cairelle Crow and Laura Louella have gathered art, poetry, stories, spells, rituals, recipes, and traditions as an homage to the worldwide influence of Brigid’s magic and lore, especially among the descendants of immigrants to the Americas. In compiling these individual works, Cairelle and Laura have given voice to those traveling ancestors by showcasing a rich and beautiful heritage manifested through embodiments of devotion by their descendants, as well as others touched by Brigid.”
We’ve been asked, “Why an anthology?” Well, we’d originally intended to write a book about Brigid and her impact around the world, thanks to the countless people who left their native ‘Celtic’ homelands and traveled to the USA and points beyond. In researching, and in asking so many people about their experiences with Brigid as descendants of those traveling ancestors, we realized an anthology would better serve this vision of Brigid as a goddess who traveled with her people. We also found quite a few people who found Brigid through technology via websites, chats, and the like. We’re thrilled about this compilation of voices from around the world who’ve graciously shared their experiences with Brigid! We’re also proud to share that all proceeds from Brigid’s Light will be donated to non-profits that are dedicated to helping disenfranchised peoples here in our homeland, the USA.
Brigid’s Light will be available in early Spring 2022 from Weiser Books. You can pre-order your copy on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or your favorite local bookstore.
